The key to freedom is not ‘being in the moment’. Many spiritual teachers promote the idea that ‘being present’ and ‘aware’ is the key to freeing the mind. This does not teach people to work with their own power and strength. It merely teaches acquiescence and a sense of inevitability.
If you want to feel free and have freedom in your life, you must face what it is that holds you back. A lot of the time it is old conditioning, ideas and beliefs that don’t serve you. These relate to what we tell ourselves and what society tells us about life.
Stripping away these outdated notions is the key to freedom. There are many individual and societal ‘norms’ that we follow simply because they are ever present. Just because something is ever present does not mean it is advantageous. Group think is usually dangerous think because people become afraid of stepping outside the ‘collective mind’.
We have the ability to choose, every day. You can choose to just ‘be present’ with what is. Or you can choose to create ‘what is’ by taking an honest look at the beliefs you are using to inform your world. Here’s a simple tool for examining these beliefs:
- Are these beliefs life promoting?
- Do they make you feel alive and vibrant?
- Do they make you feel abundant and strong?
- If not, why are you allowing them to invade your space?
Examine the ideas and beliefs that you subscribe to. Remove the ones that don’t serve you. Replace them with beliefs for your highest good and the highest good of all. That is true freedom.
