Over an espresso, a wise business owner once told me “never dance faster than the rhythm“. I queried what he meant. He replied that we should never try to dance to a rhythm that wasn’t our own. Essentially, he was saying that we are each unique, with our own calling. We should align with that rather than try to be something we are not.
Would it surprise you to know that you set the beat of your life? What you see outside of you, in the external world, is dictated by the rhythm within you. Don’t like what you see outside of you? Focus more on your own internal rhythm rather than trying to change the world outside you. When we bring the focus back to ourselves, we draw energy back to us. With that energy, we have the power to create a new external environment.
The trap is to think that we need to change ourselves or change the world around us. Change is a reality, an everyday part of life. We don’t need to actively work on change. Instead, we need to devote time to alignment with our own internal rhythm. Change will occur regardless. But if we aren’t in step with our own beat, the change will be chaotic and messy. When we are flowing with our own beat, the change looks seamless, fast and beautiful.
Many people tie themselves in knots trying to figure out why their life isn’t working. It can become a compulsive endeavour as you examine each part of your life and look for the answers. This level of examination emanates from the EGO, trying to dominate and control all our experience of the world. We want to work more from the level of spirit, which doesn’t have a need to understand things at a logical level. Spirit allows things to be as they are, without trying to rationalise everything that happens to us.
When we work from the spirit, we align with our own internal rhythm. It allows us the freedom to drop the ego mind and the space to find our true calling. We don’t need to find answers because the answer is already there. We are the answer.
How do you access your own internal rhythm and spirit? You simply lose your EGO mind. You let go of the need for controlling everything. You let go of attachments and compulsion. You can then see very clearly what sticks. When you get rid of what you don’t need, what you need and want has room to blossom.
We don’t need to force connection to spirit and our own internal rhythm. We just need to let go of anything that gets in the way of our ability to connect with them. It’s a letting go process not a seeking process.
